Training - Why Training? In a word – skills-gap. Companies need to groom and train the workforce they have. Individuals need to acquire training to make themselves more valuable. In a recent article by Rex Davenport concerning the skills gap, Rex tells corporations that “the holes in the workforce may indeed get worse before they get better."
“Eighty-one percent of respondents to the 2005 Skills Gap Survey of the American Manufacturing Workforce (and The Manufacturing Institute, 2005) said they couldn’t find qualified workers to fill their own positions. As far as manufacturers are concerned, the skills gap is upon us,” Notes Stacey Jarret Wagner, managing director, Center for Workforce Success, at the National Association of Manufactures. The American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) released the following statistics on the skills gap: Employee groups experiencing the most significant skills gap:
Executives – 21.39% Senior Managers – 39.04% Middle Managers – 67.38% Production Employees – 24.60% Customer Service Employees -25.67 Administrative Employees – 14.97% Sales Employees – 16.58% IT Staff – 9.63% Other Professional Staff - 17.11% Other - 7.49% |
